Renovations

Old to new,
done properly.

Most of Matt’s work is taking houses that have seen better days and bringing them back. One room, a full interior, or a whole house stripped back to the frame and rebuilt around how you live now.

What we renovate

From one room
to the whole house.

Every renovation is different, and older houses rarely match their plans. These are the jobs Matt takes on most.

Whole-home renovations

Strip-outs back to the frame, new layouts, new kitchens and bathrooms, new linings and finishes. A tired house turned into the one you actually want to live in.

Old to new

Kitchens & living areas

Walls out to open the kitchen up to the living room, new cabinetry, benchtops and lighting, and the joinery that ties it all together.

Open it up

Bathrooms & laundries

Full strip-outs, new waterproofing to standard, tiling, vanities and fit-off. A site toilet goes in while the bathroom is out of action.

Done to standard

Queenslanders & character homes

Weatherboard cottages and Queenslanders brought up to date, keeping the timber, the verandahs and the character that make them worth saving.

Why it matters who you pick

Renovating is harder than building new.

A new build starts on a clear block. A renovation starts with someone else’s decisions from forty years ago. This is what Matt plans for before the first wall comes out.

What’s behind the walls

Old wiring, termite damage, a missing beam. Matt prices the likely surprises honestly up front. If something turns up, work on it stops until you’ve agreed the cost in writing.

Living through it

If the job allows it, you can stay in the house while Matt works. The site is kept clean and made safe at the end of every day.

Tying old to new

Floor levels, ceiling lines, cladding and trims matched so the new work looks like it was always there.

The paperwork

Structural changes need drawings, engineering and approval. Matt works alongside you while you gather them, so you know exactly what your job needs.

Call Matt
What if you find something unexpected once the walls are open? +
It happens in almost every older house. Matt will stop, show you what he’s found, explain the options and price it. Nothing extra goes ahead until you’ve confirmed the cost in writing. No surprise lines on the final invoice.
Do I need approval to renovate? +
Cosmetic work usually doesn’t. Moving or removing load-bearing walls, adding floor area or changing the structure does, and so does most work on a character-listed house. Matt will tell you at the site visit what your job needs, and work alongside you while your draftsperson, engineer and certifier get it sorted.
Can we stay in the house while you work? +
If the job allows it, yes. For a bathroom renovation, for example, Matt puts in a site toilet, but you’d need to sort out somewhere to shower until the new bathroom is done. You’ll know what to expect before work starts.
Can I supply my own fixtures and fittings? +
Matt prefers to supply the materials himself. Owner-supplied items often cause delays, and sourcing everything through your builder is part of what you’re paying a registered builder for. On a smaller renovation he’ll consider it, so ask.
How long does a bathroom renovation take? +
It depends on the level of work. A bathroom can take one, two or three months. You’ll get a realistic timeframe with the quote.
How is a renovation priced? +
From a site visit and, where there are structural changes, the drawings. You’ll get a written, itemised quote with inclusions, exclusions and allowances spelled out, so you can see where the money goes.
